This is a short video clip of me playing Commando on the Atari 2600 VCS retro video games console.

Released in 1988 by Activision.

Considering the limitiations of the Atari 2600, this is a fairly decent conversion of the 1985 arcade classic, Commando. Though given that it was released in '88, some 10 years after the console's initial release, and considering Activision's obvious skill at manipulating the 2600's hardware, you would probably expect no less.

Run up the screen and shoot everything that moves, while avoiding being shot yourself, pretty much sums this game up.
While initially impressing with its graphics, the gameplay does become tedious after a time. It may have been worth persevering with, back in the day, when there were fewer, more impressive offerings to distract you. But as for now.... meh. I can't be bothered.

This and the other retro gaming clips on this site aren't intended as full game reviews, but are simply to give viewers who weren't around when these games were popular, an idea of what video games used to be like.
