This is a short video clip of me playing Pole Position on the Atari 2600 VCS retro video games console.
Pole Position in the arcades, was, back in the day, a very exciting and technologically impressive racing game. It featured a wheel, pedals, and gear change, all of which kept you quite literally on your toes. It was a tough game, but really got the adrenalin pumping.
On the Atari 2600 however, it just sucks.
No pedals, no wheel, lousy braking and gearchange control, and no accelerator control at all. Steering is abysmal, and you can't really figure where the opposition cars are going to be on the track, until you hit them.
Truly awful. Get Activision's Enduro instead.
This and the other retro gaming clips on this site aren't intended as full game reviews, but are simply to give viewers who weren't around when these games were popular, an idea of what video games used to be like.
