Popeye on Atari 2600 VCS
This is a short video clip of me playing Popeye on the Atari 2600 VCS retro video games console.
Popeye was a Nintendo arcade game, featuring the characters from the popular Popeye cartoon.
It's a little known fact that during development of the sequel, Nintendo were in dispute with the Popeye copyright holders, King Features. Nintendo went ahead and made the game with their own characters... Mario and Donkey Kong. The rest is history.
The Atari conversion of the game, developed by Parker Brothers, is a fairly decent port of the game. Obviously fewer colours and less detailed graphics are to be expected, but gameplay is pretty much true to the arcade original.
This and the other retro gaming clips on this site aren't intended as full game reviews, but are simply to give viewers who weren't around when these games were popular, an idea of what video games used to be like.
